UK labs performing soil analysis for regulatory purposes are required to obtain MCERTS accreditation. The MCERTS performance standard dictates some stringent analytical performance characteristics based on accuracy and precsion.
Many labs currently looking for new instrumentation to perform multi-element analysis of soils conforming with these standards do not know whether to purchase ICP or ICP-MS. This arcticle describes the requirements of the MCERTS performance standard and shows the results of a performance comparison between an ICP and a collision/reaction cell ICP-MS for this analysis.
